Low-shear” applications require minimizing the emulsification effect on the process fluid (multi-phase). The emulsification is strictly related to the shear stress components that affect the fluid, causing the fractioning of the dispersed phase. Shear stresses are function of the flow turbulence and its related turbulence kinetic energy. Flow turbulences are mainly generated by cross-section changes and direction changes in the flow path.Low-shear” applications, a true axial flow design (like cage guided control valve) can help in greatly reducing the associated flow turbulence, giving a more straight-through path to the flow, and avoiding the tortuous body geometry of a globe valve. Control ball valves are a straight-through flow design which means the valve design is inherently bi-directional.
